Koturna, socles, chapines - do you know only a part of the names? Then get acquainted: these are the direct ancestors of fashionable platform shoes.
We always and in everything want to be on top. We want to be noticeable and fashionable, stand out in the crowd. To realize all these desires, platform shoes will help us. A platform is called a fairly thick sole of shoes, which changes configuration depending on fashion trends. It is believed that the ancient ancestors of the platform were ancient Greek katurns. From the last rows of the amphitheater, the audience could clearly see the actor standing on such a high platform. Since then, it has become a custom: got up higher - and immediately you feel like a star.
In the East, noble men and women also wore shoes on a high wooden platform - gate with lacing. Leather lacing was often stretched, people were forced to mince finely in loosely tied shoes, and this gait was considered very beautiful.
In dirty medieval Europe, the platform became compulsorily popular. Patterns, more like foot-tied benches, served as galoshes. Venetian
"platforms" were called "socles." They were worn by both courtesans and noble ladies. In the latter, the tree of the "platforms" was covered with leather with patterns and embroidery from silk, some inlaid with mother of pearl, precious stones. The height of such a shoe reached 40 (!) Centimeters - without escort of servants you will not go far. And in the Italian 60-centimeter chapines, the risk of falling into the gutter was even greater. Surprisingly, the church approved this fashion: you won’t especially dance in such shoes, which means there will be less dubious entertainments in the life of women.
But in England, a law was introduced according to which the marriage bond could be annulled if it turned out that the bride had faked her height using a heel or platform.
In the Renaissance, noble men also wore platform shoes. But not for long. In high society, this hobby quickly passed. It was time for balls, which required a completely different shoe ...
Fight on the podium
For a long time, the platform remained in oblivion. She returned to fashion only in the 20th century. At first she timidly and briefly appeared in France in the 1930s when Roger Vivier introduced the fashion to the world with shoes on a cork board uniform that he had borrowed from orthopedists. In the 40s, with the light hand of Elsa Schiaparelli, the "thick sole" became wildly popular. But then, in the 50s, she lost the decisive battle young to her rival - the hairpin just invented. And high-heeled shoes quickly began to gain popularity. But in the 70s, platform shoes fell in love with hippies: the "flower children" wanted to stand firmly on the ground, but towering above the world. Then came the beach clogs with lacing (the heirs of the Japanese gate) and new materials such as rubber alloy (called semolina).Today, the platform is not only a recognized classic, but also a trend.Almost all the leading fashion houses include her in the collection. Designers provided platforms and evening shoes, and sneakers, and stocking boots.
Most often, the collections feature platforms made of wood and woven jute. Transparent platforms were invented, they are decorated with semiprecious stones, luminous elements and electronic sensors are built into them. For the decor of platforms use straps, bows, flowers, geometric prints, contrasting edging ... When several pads overlap, the heel soars up to 30 cm! This is today's fashion and at the moment is an absolute record for heights; while the shoes do not look bulky, and you can wear almost any clothes with them.
Height features
Following such a "high" shoe fashion, keep in mind that the platforms go well with skirts, trousers, dresses (especially with the bright, maxi options in the style of the 70s that are fashionable now).Belt pleated skirt
Swing Dress
Platform shoes can be worn with jeans and a floral shirt. Adding a hat, we get a nice bohemian image. And the platform in combination with a balloon dress or a sun skirt and with thin lace at the ankle makes the image touching and feminine.
Raglan Sleeve Blouse
Pointy yoke skirt
Ladies of significant merits are suitable for high-rise shoes and not too thick soles. Or with a hidden platform, narrowed in the heel. Complete with a skirt, trousers or a long dress will make an easy summer look.
Pleated Oversized Skirt
Blouse with oncoming pleats and raglan sleeves
Dress with a tiered skirt
The main task of thin girls is to avoid the effect of "irons" on their legs. To facilitate the platform will help: a small pattern, for example a thin longitudinal strip; an openwork platform, as well as a combination of platform wedges with a hairpin.
