In 1945, he began working as a model painter for Jacques Fat, one of the most popular designers of those years. Later he collaborated with Elsa Schiaparelli, from whom Givenchy learned to master the material, the purity of forms and lines, and cut.

Givenchy deliberately created this look in the style of new look to emphasize the fragility and beauty of the heroine, who, according to the script, suddenly turned from a simpleton into Cinderella, being on top of the fashionable Olympus, thanks to her incomparable appearance.

A dress long below the knees and a lace mask added an image of mystery to the actress, which reflected the storyline of the famous film.
In addition to Audrey Hepburn, the most famous fans of the great fashion designer’s talent were Grace Kelly and Jacqueline Kennedy.

In this dress, she appeared at the Oscar ceremony, where she received the coveted figurine for best actress in the film "Country Girl" (1954). By the way, the dress was recognized as the most expensive by the standards of the time. Of course, it cost $ 4,000!
The aristocratic style of House Givenchy lasted half a century. His hits are princess cut-out dresses with a boat neckline; with collars lagging behind the neck; with a bow at the waist or shoulder; with sleeves three quarters, extended downwards.
Givenchy was not a supporter of revolutionary explosions in fashion. He served the classics and originally interpreted it. He was loved because he created a fashion that organically fit both in high life and on everyday life of city streets.
