Does it seem to you that you are wasting your energy at work? Perhaps it is. How to decide on a change?
“Do what you love to do, and there will not be a single working day in your life,” Confucius advised. It would seem that it is extremely simple, but the truth of life is that often we choose a profession, our vocation is not at all independent. Often we are influenced by the experience of parents, and we try to realize their dreams, replacing our desires. And only after years, waking up halfway, we understand that this was not our choice. In adolescence, on the threshold of life, many of us are not yet ready to decide on "occupation for life." Someone is going to learn the profession, because it is "in trend", someone is paired with a girlfriend, and for someone it is enough that the institute is not far from home.
Just think about it, yesterday’s child is forced to quickly make a decision (once and for all?), What and how to do for the rest of his life. At 16, when our psyche was not yet formed for a critical attitude to the world. So it is not surprising that choices made in youth often turn out to be erroneous.
According to the largest recruiting portal Runet HeadHunter: more than half of the employees of Russian companies do not work in their specialty. And one of the main reasons is the disappointment in the choice of education.
However, there is good news. Namely: understanding your failure is already success! A change of course in this case is simply a necessary step if we want to live a happy life.
1. Do not be afraid!
Any change is alarming. Therefore, to begin with, admit to yourself what are you most afraid of? Only clearly conscious fear can be defeated. Then remember your successful experience of change in the past. As once you were a "newbie" and have achieved success! Nothing has changed, you can repeat what you did once.
Irina Inkina, 49 years old, Tomsk
"Don't be afraid to get out of your comfort zone."My previous job was an assistant to a deputy of the Duma of the city of Tomsk. When my leader retired, it was my time to review the vector of the application of forces. I received an invitation to work in an insurance company, but it was not easy to decide immediately on serious changes. Former colleagues and relatives have repeatedly said that we need serious motivation and a certain courage to start work from scratch, to decide to change the profession. Some took my new position lightly and said: "Which one of you is a financial consultant? You never sold anything!" But I managed to overcome fear, overcome my complexes, and today I have a powerful incentive. I created a financial "airbag" for my family, I started traveling. The company always has room to grow, there are always prospects. Our profession is in great demand in the labor market. It opens up wide opportunities for professional growth and income growth, because everything depends only on you, on your focus on results and activity. I would advise those who want to change their profession not to be afraid to leave the comfort zone: without this, there is no development. Remember that your life is in your hands!
2. Find your inspiration
Collect positive examples from the lives of friends and acquaintances; Look for inspiration by reading biographies of famous and successful people. For example, Renata Molcho’s book “Being Armani” or the best-selling book “Sailor in the Saddle” written by Irving Stone about Jack London’s life.
Anna Kravtsova, 30 years old, Moscow
"From clouna in the stars of Hollywood "I was very impressed with the article, which talked about who Hollywood stars worked before they got their first movie role. Julia Roberts was selling ice cream, Tom Cruise was the bellboy at the hotel, and Hugh Jackman was the clown. Then I decided that I could also achieve different heights if I reconsider my career. Now I am developing my jewelry store on Instagram, and the work of the office manager is in the past!
3. Learn new things
The modern world dictates to us the need to be more mobile, listen to ourselves and learn new things all the time. Therefore, the next step: inventory of our own resources and the search for resources for professional reorientation. Today there are many continuing education courses, training seminars and webinars (you don’t even need to leave home!).
Julia Kostrykina, 40 years old, Astrakhan
"Do what you must and success will come"A teacher, a teacher of mathematics by education, I worked as a private entrepreneur and independently raised two little daughters. It so happened that I had no one to rely on, but my own business brought unstable, low income. I wanted changes, opportunities to realize and build a career! In 2012, I found out about work in the insurance industry, and in the same year I was invited to Renaissance Life. Starting from the position of manager, in three months I recruited a group of financial consultants. The skills of the teacher help me a lot: I pass on my experience and knowledge to new employees and get great moral satisfaction. However, financial too. The role of a consultant allows you to have an income of 100,000 rubles - this is real. In addition, we have many pleasant bonuses, for example, travel at the expense of the company.
4. Start small
An internship is one of the shortest bridges to a new profession. The trainee’s work is not always paid, but the experience and recommendations gained are invaluable and will lead to the work of a dream. The main task in this short period is to get as much knowledge as possible. Do not be afraid to ask questions to mentors and colleagues, tackle difficult tasks, if possible.
Alevtina Sayapova, 35 years old, St. Petersburg
Creative ChefAs an intern at a consulting company, I was able to get additional skills for free. And just a week ago I got the position of leading specialist! Despite the fact that by education I am ... a cook. Here it is!
5. Prioritize
Routine work and lack of free time or a favorite thing for which no time is sorry? You will have to make a choice. Combine hobbies and work to be truly happy. Easy to say, isn't it? But what if you have no hobbies with financial potential? Try to find a job that will give you enough freedom, including financial. Perhaps at the same time you will find a new hobby.
Albina Nuretdinova, 53 years old, Nizhnekamsk
"Go ahead - burn bridges"Having a higher economic education, I worked as a chief accountant. Fixed salary, fixed work schedule, complete lack of career and personal growth. Routine, in a word.
Raising two children alone, it is impossible not to wonder: "What will happen to them if something happens to me?" Wishing to protect them, I became a client of the Renaissance Life insurance company. And even more understanding the essence of insurance, I decided to take care of friends and relatives. So I got a new job and a new work of life.
What are the other pluses of my work? The growth of my income is not limited by anything and depends on my desire. I joined the company 11 years ago as a financial consultant. After 8 months, she became the manager of the company. And for 7 years now, I’m the director of the agency. I managed to find my true calling!
According to VTsIOM polls (September 2017), 17% of respondents believe that their favorite interesting work allows people to stay young longer.
What is the new trend in the labor market?
Both in Europe and America, the population has long been accustomed to insuring both life and property, and gradually this trend comes to us. After all, all kinds of insurance give confidence in the future and help to avoid force majeure. Moreover, the execution of cumulative life insurance can be considered as a profitable investment! You live happily, money is accumulating, at the exit there is a substantial amount in order to implement new plans.
This means that the demand for financial specialists in the insurance industry is growing. The undoubted advantage of this profession is that you do not need special education or continuing education courses several years long. Enough short-term training and internships.
Go ahead and you will succeed!
